Virginie Sommet is an artist who has been active in the New York art scene for a number of years.

Ms. Sommet creates found object sculptures that incorporate toys, tableware, bindis, toilet seat, flyers and diaries. These assemblages reflect her familiarity with a wide range of immigrant groups and social subcultures that she hopes to bring to the attention -- and eventual understanding -- of mainstream viewers.

Virginie Sommet's sculpture installations tackle extremely difficult topics in order to examine the sexual and societal constraints that separate individuals of different gender and of different urban subcultures.

Ms.Sommet's particular, fresh vision, employs the neo conceptual object to great effect. Her deft visual wit is as delightful as it is startling. She has a unique understanding of urban culture, alienation and transcendence.
