PERFORMANCE:'TOILET PAPER INSTITU'

White toilet paper wrapped around three of the "Colonnes de Buren" at the Palais Royal in Paris (France). In 1985, the French government commissioned the minimalist artist Daniel Buren (born in 1938) to construct a series of contemporary minimalist pillars which were placed in the courtyard of the Palais Royal, a classified historic site and an emblem of power. It created a scandal in the press. It was the first of several similar "cultural cohabitation "projects" (the Pyramid in the Louvre was the next, all of which have had great success following initial scandals. In 1992, I decided to do an insitu performance with toilet paper on the Buren work to change the linear perspective of the pillars with toilet paper thereby alluding to the public’s negative reaction. The performance took place directly in front of the office of the National President of Fine Art, who came out and told me that my work has a lot of humor. This illegal performance remained in place for three days.
