'99C GENDER'

Dimensions: 2m 44 H x 46 cm L. Origin: 99¢ store in New York Two canvases of the same size, one covered with girl’s toys and the other covered with boy’s toys. As you can see, the world did not evolve much. We have toys that unfortunately represent the life of the adult majority. Most children grow up with these strange things that we call toys. They appear in two colors, the pink of girls which represents the naive and the blue of boys which represents violence. It is pretty strange to see these kinds of toys in 2005. They are many cliches about women and men - an exit point for the majority, especially toys found in popular discount stores. We are supposed to have more knowledge now. Technology and centuries of travelling should have distanced us from our ancestors, but apparently not. We are moving backwards. Really, we still have the same toys that we once had; they just look different. All these toys make children consumers and not creators. They are instead small owners who do not invent the responsibilities of the adult causality. The adults are ignorant enough to keep making these kinds of toys because our social system needs to tame the future generation in order for it to fit in the world. The production mold assumes the consumption mold, which assumes the gender image. It will be great if one day we stop being our own victims. We are not obliged to buy these kind of toys and perhaps it will change the face of our world!
